The first Test match between these two was played from 25 to 28 June 1932, when India was still under colonial rule. England won the match by 158 runs. India’s first win against England came in 1952 at Chennai. The Indian side led by Vijay Hazare won the match by an innings and 8 runs. Vinoo Mankad gave an exceptional bowling performance by taking 12 wickets. India had to wait for ten years for their next win against England. The back to back wins in 1962 at Kolkata and Chennai saw India win their first Test series against England. The Indian side however wasn’t able to dominate the English for a long period in Test match cricket. England lead the head to head tie in Test matches by quite some margin, with almost twice number of wins when compared to India.
